Not as rich as you think

Social media (especially Instagram) can make people feel bad about their lifestyle and the money they earn. Everyday, a lot of influencers on Instagram show off their brand-new Gucci belt or Louis Vuitton slippers…They show us how normal and easy it is for them to earn all of these items, but what about the price? They travel all around the world, they sleep in palaces and go to very expensive restaurants. Of course, they share every detail of their “dream lifestyle” with their followers, via platforms like Instagram.

When scrolling through your feed, have you ever felt so bored of your life and thought about how amazing it would be if you were an influencer? Because the real question is: how can they afford all of this if they never seem to work?

The truth is that they are in partnerships with those brands which sell cosmetic products, fashion items or give free stays at expensive hotels... You are probably wondering why those brands are doing partnerships and giving free stays or sending free expensive clothes to the people they work with?

In fact, it’s in order to attract their followers to these places and invite them to buy the same products that the influencers use. The other name of influencer could be “dream seller”. Brands send influencers products for free so they can take pictures, videos, stories of these… and make their followers want these too.

Sometimes, the partnership between a brand and an influencer on social media is obvious (their caption ends with “#ad” or we can see the mention “paid partnership with …”), but sometimes it is more subtle.

For example, an influencer you love and follow just showed in her story her new Prada bag and you think: “Oh, that’s such a pretty bag, I would love to have it!” Then you check its price on Google and see that it costs 2 000 dollars and you can’t afford it. Ouch.

Of course, you know that if you want it, you will have to pay for it. And what’s dangerous is that you think influencers paid to have it, but they didn’t. They ARE paid to make you feel envious of what they have, so you can buy it too. This whole thing is only manipulation and lies.
