The impacts on my mental and physical health

ree

“Instagram is the worst social media network for mental health and wellbeing, according to a recent survey” (Times).

Sometimes, uploading something on Instagram can be stressful for me. In fact, before I post a picture of me, I look at it for soooo long, until I find a thing I don’t like: a pimple on my face, my waist that doesn’t look tiny enough or this t-shirt I don’t really like. Stupid things like this are stressing me out because I’m scared people will notice my insecurities. It seems so dumb to me right now when I am writing but I know that it is a real problem and a lot of people feel that too. I also can be stressed when I see that someone just posted a picture of me without asking, for example.

I don’t even know if a lot of you feel this kind of pressure but… I am a hundred percent sure that social media can has huge impacts on mental and physical health, and that everybody doesn’t respond to this the same.

Let’s know more about the different troubles caused by social media on this chart.

We can see that social media can have bad impacts on multiple aspects of our health that we could avoid if we used them differently. I don’t think Mark Zuckerberg created Facebook and bought Instagram to make people feel lonely or bad about their body image… but our society turned social media into an unhealthy/toxic way of making money that is damaging user’s health. Fake news, influencers, brands, trends… They are vectors of bullying, anxiety and everything you can see on the board. If you read this and feel even a little unhappy while you are on social media, you should try to use it more wisely: maybe disconnect for a while, maybe unfollow people that make you feel bad about your body image… Just don’t forget that a social media is a place where you can communicate and express yourself, and if it start being a problem, then it loses all its potential.

See you,

Alexandra
